Unpacking and Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on a stable, level surface near a power outlet.

  1. Remove all packaging tape and protective materials from inside and outside the machine.
  2. Install the toner cartridge: Open front cover, remove cartridge from packaging, shake gently, insert until it clicks.
  3. Load paper into the tray: Adjust guides, fan paper, load face-up up to the max mark.
  4. Connect power cord and network/USB cable as needed.
  5. Power on the device.

WARNING! Do not place near heat sources or in direct sunlight. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.

Initial Setup and Configuration

Power on the MFC; follow on-screen prompts on the LCD or use the installer software.

  1. Install drivers: Use the provided CD or download from Brother website for your operating system.
  2. Network setup: Connect Ethernet cable, use control panel to view/configure IP address, or use automatic setup via installer.
  3. Set date/time: Use control panel menu (Settings > General Setup > Date & Time).

  1. Printing: Send print job from computer. Use driver settings for duplex, multiple pages per sheet, watermark.
  2. Copying: Place original on glass or in ADF. Use control panel to set copies, darkness, zoom, duplex. Press START.
  3. Scanning: Place original. Press SCAN key, choose destination (PC, Email, Network). Configure via control panel or PC software.
  4. Faxing: Connect phone line to LINE port. Store speed dials. Place document, dial number, press FAX START. Use menu for fax settings (ECM, distinctive ring).

WARNING! Do not touch the scanner glass or ADF rollers with fingers; use a soft cloth for cleaning. Follow local regulations for fax header information.

Maintenance and Consumables

Replace toner when low message appears or print quality fades. Use genuine Brother TN-760 standard yield or TN-760XL high yield cartridge.

  1. Open front cover.
  2. Remove old cartridge, dispose properly.
  3. Unpack new cartridge, shake gently side-to-side 5-6 times.
  4. Insert firmly until it clicks, close cover.
  5. Clean interior with provided cleaning brush if toner spills.

CAUTION! Toner is not hazardous but avoid inhalation. Keep cartridge out of reach of children. Do not incinerate.
