Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable, level surface near power outlet.

  1. Remove packaging tape and protective materials from printer interior.
  2. Install ink cartridges: Open front cover, insert cartridges in correct slots (black, cyan, magenta, yellow).
  3. Load paper: Adjust paper guides in main tray, load up to 250 sheets of plain paper.
  4. Connect power cord to printer and wall outlet.
  5. Turn on printer using power button.

WARNING! Do not touch ink nozzles or electrical contacts on cartridges. Keep printer away from heat sources and moisture.

First-Time Setup

Power on printer; follow on-screen prompts on touchscreen.

  1. Language selection: Choose preferred language (default English).
  2. Date & Time: Set current date and time for fax and print logs.

  3. For Ethernet: Connect cable to printer and router, printer will obtain IP automatically.
  4. For Wi-Fi: Use touchscreen to select network and enter password, or press WPS button on router.
  5. Verify connection in Network menu or print network configuration report.

Tip: For stable wireless connection, place printer within range of router without obstructions.

Printing & Copying

  2. Faxing: Connect phone line to LINE port, place document, dial number using keypad or address book, press Start.
  3. Speed dial: Store frequently used numbers in address book for quick dialing.
  4. Fax reception: Set to automatic or manual mode in fax settings.

Note: For scanning to email, SMTP server must be configured in network settings.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Unplug before cleaning. Use soft, dry cloth; clean exterior and scanner glass. No liquids or abrasive cleaners.

Ink Maintenance: Replace cartridges when low or empty. Run nozzle check and cleaning cycles from Maintenance menu if print quality declines.

CAUTION! Do not refill cartridges; use only genuine Brother LC221/LC221XL cartridges. Keep ink cartridges in sealed package until installation.
