Installation & Setup

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on a stable, level surface near a power outlet.

  1. Install ink cartridges: Open front cover, remove protective tape from cartridges, insert into correct color slots until they click.
  2. Load paper: Adjust paper guides in tray, load up to 250 sheets of plain paper.
  3. Connect power: Plug power cord into printer and wall outlet.
  4. Turn on printer: Press Power button; follow on-screen prompts to initialize.
  5. Install software: Insert CD or download drivers from Brother website; follow installation wizard.

WARNING! Do not touch printhead or ink contacts. Keep printer upright during installation.

Scanning:

  1. Place document face down on glass or in ADF.
  2. Press Scan button on control panel or use computer software.
  3. Select destination: Computer, USB, email, cloud.
  4. Adjust settings: Resolution, file format (PDF, JPEG), color mode.
  5. Press Start to scan.

Copying:

  1. Place original as above.
  2. Press Copy button.
  3. Set number of copies, darkness, paper size, reduce/enlarge.
  4. Press Color or Black button to start.

Fax Functions

Requires connection to analog telephone line.

  1. Connect telephone line to LINE port on back of printer.
  2. Set date/time and station ID via Fax Settings menu.
  3. To send fax: Place document, dial number using keypad or speed dial, press Fax Start.
  4. To receive: Set mode to Auto, Manual, or Answering Machine.
  5. Access fax memory and reports from Fax menu.

Note: Color fax requires recipient to have color fax capability.

Maintenance & Ink Replacement

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance.

  1. Replace ink when low indicator appears: Open front cover, press ink latch, remove old cartridge, insert new one.
  2. Clean printhead: Use Maintenance menu > Printhead Cleaning.
  3. Align printhead: Via Maintenance menu > Printhead Alignment.
  4. Clean exterior: Unplug, use dry soft cloth; avoid liquids.

CAUTION! Use only Brother LC301 series ink cartridges. Do not refill.
