Unpacking and Setup

Remove all packaging materials and inspect contents.

  1. Place printer on a stable, flat surface near power outlet and computer/network.
  2. Install ink cartridges: Open front cover, remove protective tape, insert cartridges until they click.
  3. Load paper: Adjust paper guides in main tray, load up to 250 sheets of plain paper.
  4. Connect power cord and turn on printer using power switch.
  5. Install print head (if not pre-installed) following on-screen prompts.

WARNING! Do not touch ink nozzles or copper contacts. Keep printer horizontal during setup.

Initial Configuration

Follow on-screen instructions on LCD display.

Tip: For stable connection, place printer within range of wireless router, avoiding obstacles.

Printing and Scanning

Printing from computer: Install driver, select MFC-J4420DW as printer, adjust settings (quality, duplex, paper type). Scanning: Place document on glass or in ADF, press Scan button, choose destination (PC, email, USB).

  1. Copy: Place original, press Copy, set options, press Start.
  2. Fax: Load document, dial number using keypad, press Start Fax.
