Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable, level surface near power outlet and telephone line (for fax).

  1. Install toner cartridge: Open front cover, remove packing material, insert cartridge until it clicks.
  2. Load paper: Adjust paper guides in input tray, load plain paper face down.
  3. Connect power: Plug power cord into unit and wall outlet.
  4. Connect to PC: Use USB cable to connect to computer USB port.
  5. Connect telephone line: Plug line cord into LINE jack on rear for fax functionality.

WARNING! Do not touch the green drum surface of the toner cartridge. Avoid placing in direct sunlight or humid areas.

First-Time Setup

Power on the device; follow prompts on LCD display.

  1. Install software: Insert driver CD or download from Brother website; follow on-screen instructions.
  2. Set date/time: Use control panel to configure system clock for fax timestamp.
  3. Test print: Print a test page via control panel or PC to verify installation.
  4. Configure fax settings: Enter station ID (name/number) for outgoing faxes.

  3. For fax, connect telephone line cord from wall jack to LINE port.
  4. Power on devices; install drivers if prompted.

Tip: Use a surge protector for power and telephone lines to protect against electrical spikes.

Printing & Copying

Supports single/multi-page printing and copying.

  1. Printing: Send print job from PC; ensure device is online (READY light on).
  2. Copying: Place original on scanner glass or in ADF; press COPY, set number of copies and options, press START.
  3. Duplex copying: Use menu to enable double-sided copying if supported.
  4. Enlargement/Reduction: Use percentage keys or menu to adjust size.
  5. Toner Save Mode: Enable in print driver or device menu to conserve toner.

WARNING! Do not look directly at laser beam inside printer. Allow hot surfaces to cool before servicing.

Scanning & Faxing

Scan to PC or memory; send/receive faxes.

Scanning: Place document; press SCAN; select destination (PC, USB); adjust settings via software.

Faxing:

  1. Sending: Load document; dial number using keypad or speed dial; press START.
  2. Receiving: Set mode (Auto, Manual, Answering Machine); device will receive automatically in Auto mode.
  3. Memory Fax: Stores received faxes if paper runs out; print later.
  4. Broadcast: Send same fax to multiple numbers stored in memory.

Fax Header: Ensure station ID is set for identification on sent faxes.

Care & Maintenance

Unplug device before cleaning. Use dry, lint-free cloth; vacuum paper path if needed.

  1. Exterior: Wipe with damp cloth; avoid liquids near openings.
  2. Scanner glass: Clean with glass cleaner and soft cloth; avoid scratches.
  3. Paper rollers: Clean with dry cloth if paper feed issues occur.
  4. Toner cartridge: Replace when print quality fades or low toner message appears.

CAUTION! Do not use alcohol or abrasive cleaners. Dispose of used toner cartridges per local regulations.
