Installation & Setup

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on a stable, level surface near a power outlet and network connection.

  1. Remove all packaging materials and tape from inside and outside the printer.
  2. Install the toner cartridges: Open front cover, remove packing material, insert CMYK cartridges until they click.
  3. Load paper into the paper tray: Adjust guides, fan paper, load face-up.
  4. Connect power cable and turn on the printer using the power switch.
  5. Follow the on-screen setup wizard to select language, date/time, and network settings.
  6. Install printer drivers on your computer from the provided CD or Brother website.

WARNING! Toner cartridges are sensitive to light. Keep them in their packaging until ready to install. Avoid touching the green drum surface.

Loading Paper & Toner

Loading Paper:

  1. Pull out the paper tray completely.
  2. Adjust the paper guides to match the paper size.
  3. Fan a stack of paper and load it print-side up. Do not exceed the maximum fill line.
  4. Push the tray gently back into the printer.
  5. For envelopes or special media, use the multi-purpose tray.

Replacing Toner:

  1. Open the front cover. The carriage will move to the replacement position.
  2. Remove the empty toner cartridge by pulling it straight out.
  3. Unpack the new cartridge, gently shake it 5-6 times, and remove the protective tape.
  4. Insert the cartridge into its color-coded slot and push until it clicks.
  5. Close the front cover. The printer will calibrate automatically.

CAUTION! Use only genuine Brother TN-221/ TN-222 series toner cartridges. Non-genuine supplies may cause damage and void the warranty.

Basic Operations

Printing: Send print jobs from your computer. Use the printer driver to select options like duplex, color mode, paper type, and quality.
Copying:

  1. Place original on the flatbed or in the ADF.
  2. On the touchscreen, tap "Copy".
  3. Set number of copies, darkness, zoom, and other options.
  4. Tap "Start".

Scanning:

  1. Place document.
  2. Tap "Scan" on the touchscreen.
  3. Choose destination (Email, Network Folder, USB).
  4. Set format (PDF, JPEG), resolution, and file name.
  5. Tap "Start".

Faxing:

  1. Load document.
  2. Tap "Fax" on the touchscreen.
  3. Enter the fax number using the keypad or speed dial.
  4. Adjust resolution or darkness if needed.
  5. Press the "Start" button to send.

Network Configuration

Connect the printer to your network via Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi.

  1. Wired (Ethernet): Connect an Ethernet cable from the printer to your router/switch. The IP address will be assigned automatically via DHCP.
  2. Wireless (Wi-Fi):
    • From the touchscreen, go to Settings > Network > Wireless.
    • Select your network (SSID) from the list and enter the password.
    • Alternatively, use WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) if your router supports it.
  3. Print a Network Configuration Report from the Reports menu to verify the IP address.
  4. Install the printer driver on computers, selecting the network printer during setup.

Tip: For a stable connection in a business environment, a wired Ethernet connection is recommended.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Unplug the printer before performing any internal cleaning.

  1. Exterior: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn stains, dampen the cloth slightly with water. Do not use alcohol or solvents.
  2. Interior: Open the front cover and gently wipe away any spilled toner with a dry, lint-free cloth.
  3. Scanner Glass & ADF Rollers: Clean with a soft cloth and glass cleaner. Ensure the glass is completely dry before closing.
  4. Paper Path: Remove any jammed paper fragments carefully. Refer to the jam clearance instructions in the manual.

CAUTION! Toner is not hazardous but can be messy. Avoid inhaling toner dust. If toner gets on clothing, wash it in cold water.
