Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on a stable, level surface near a power outlet and computer/network.

  1. Remove all packaging materials and tapes from inside and outside the machine.
  2. Install the toner cartridges: Open front cover, remove protective materials, insert black, cyan, magenta, and yellow cartridges until they click.
  3. Load paper: Adjust paper guides in the tray, load plain paper (up to 250 sheets).
  4. Connect power cord to the machine and plug into a grounded outlet.
  5. Connect to computer: Use USB cable for direct connection or Ethernet cable for network.

WARNING! Toner cartridges are sensitive; handle with care. Avoid touching the green drum surface.

First-Time Setup

Power on the machine; follow on-screen prompts on the LCD display.

  1. Initial startup: The machine will perform self-tests and calibration (may take several minutes).
  2. Install drivers: Insert the supplied software CD or download latest drivers from Brother website.

3. Select scan mode (color, grayscale, B&W), resolution, format (PDF, JPEG).
4. Choose destination (PC, email, USB).
Faxing:
1. Load document in ADF or on glass.
2. Dial number using keypad or speed dial.
3. Press START to send.
4. Receive faxes automatically; store in memory if paper runs out.

PC-FAX: Send faxes directly from computer using installed driver.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Unplug machine before cleaning exterior. Use dry, lint-free cloth; for stubborn stains, dampen cloth with water only.

  1. Clean exterior: Wipe casing with dry cloth.
  2. Clean scanner glass: Use soft cloth and glass cleaner (do not spray directly).
  3. Clean corona wire: Access via front door; slide green tab left and right several times if print quality issues occur.
  4. Replace toner: When low toner message appears, open front cover and replace cartridge.
  5. Replace drum unit (if applicable): When message appears, replace entire drum unit.

CAUTION! Do not use alcohol, ammonia, or abrasive cleaners. Allow machine to cool before cleaning internal parts.
