Unpacking and Setup

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable, level surface near power outlet.

  1. Remove all packaging materials and tape from inside and outside the unit.
  2. Install ink cartridges: Open front cover, insert cartridges in correct slots, press until they click.
  3. Load paper: Adjust paper guides in tray, load plain paper face down.
  4. Connect power cord to rear of printer and to AC outlet.
  5. Turn on power switch.

WARNING! Do not touch print head or ink contacts. Handle cartridges carefully to avoid leaks.

Installation and Configuration

Power on printer; follow on-screen prompts on LCD or computer.

  1. Install software: Insert CD or download drivers from Brother website. Follow installation wizard.
  2. Connect to computer: Use USB cable for direct connection or connect via network.
  3. Network setup: Use control panel or software to configure IP address for Ethernet connection.
  4. Align print head: Printer will prompt for alignment after ink installation; follow instructions.

Connecting to Network

  4. Configure network: Use control panel MENU > Network > TCP/IP > Auto or Manual.
  5. Print network configuration report to verify IP address.

Tip: Use automatic IP (DHCP) for easiest setup.

Printing and Copying

Supports printing from computer and standalone copying.

  1. Printing: Select Brother printer in application's print dialog; adjust settings as needed.

Scanning: Place document, press SCAN, select destination (PC, Email, File), adjust settings (resolution, format), press START.

Faxing: - Send: Place document, dial number using keypad or speed dial, press START. - Receive: Set mode to FAX or AUTO; incoming faxes are received automatically into memory or printed. - Fax memory: Stores up to 200 pages if paper runs out.

Fax Setup: Configure header (name/number), ring delay, ECM mode via FAX menu.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Unplug before cleaning exterior. Use soft, dry cloth; avoid liquids.

  1. Print head cleaning: Use Maintenance menu > Clean Print Head if print quality declines.
  2. Nozzle check: Print test pattern to verify ink flow.
  3. Paper path: Keep rollers clean; use lint-free cloth if necessary.
  4. Scanner glass: Clean with soft, slightly damp cloth; dry thoroughly.
  5. Ink replacement: Replace cartridges when LCD indicates low ink.
