Installation & Setup

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on a stable, level surface near a power outlet and telephone jack (for fax).

  1. Install Toner: Open front cover, remove packing material, insert toner cartridge, close cover.
  2. Load Paper: Adjust paper guides in tray, load plain paper (up to 250 sheets).
  3. Connect Cables: Attach power cord, USB cable to computer (or Ethernet cable to network), and telephone line to LINE port.
  4. Power On: Press power button, follow initial setup prompts on LCD.
  5. Install Drivers: Insert software CD or download latest drivers from Brother website.

WARNING! Do not touch the green drum surface of the toner cartridge. Avoid placing in humid or dusty locations.

Control Panel & Settings

Access functions via the control panel buttons and 2-line LCD display.

  4. Push tray back in until it clicks.

Replacing Toner: When TONER light flashes or print is faint:

  1. Open front cover.
  2. Remove old toner cartridge.
  3. Unpack new cartridge, shake gently.
  4. Insert firmly until it clicks.
  5. Close front cover. Machine will calibrate.

Tip: Use only Brother TN-350 toner cartridges. Recycle empty cartridges.

Basic Operations

Making Copies:

  1. Place original on flatbed or in ADF.
  2. Use COPY button and arrows to set number of copies (1-99).
  3. Adjust density or zoom if needed via MENU.
  4. Press START.

Sending a Fax:

  1. Load document.
  2. Press FAX, dial number using numeric keypad.
  3. Press START to send. Use REDIAL if busy.

Scanning to PC: Ensure drivers installed. Press SCAN button, select destination (Email, File, OCR).

Network Configuration

To connect via Ethernet for shared printing/scanning:

  1. Connect Ethernet cable from router to machine's LAN port.
  2. Power on machine. It will obtain IP automatically (DHCP) by default.
  3. Print Network Configuration Report (MENU > Report > Config).
  4. On computers, install drivers via CD or download, selecting network connection during setup.
  5. Enter the machine's IP address when prompted.

Tip: Assign a static IP via the control panel menu for stable network access.

PC-Fax & Scanning

PC-Fax (Send/Receive faxes directly from computer):

  1. Install Brother PC-FAX driver during software setup.
  2. From any application, choose Print and select the Brother PC-FAX driver.
  3. Enter recipient fax number and send.

Scanning to Various Destinations: Use the SCAN button or Brother ControlCenter software on your PC to scan to email, network folder, or image editing applications.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Unplug the machine before cleaning.

  1. Exterior: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use alcohol or solvents.
  2. Scanner Glass & ADF Rollers: Clean with a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water.
  3. Corona Wire: If print quality issues occur, open front cover and gently slide the green corona wire tab left and right several times to clean.

CAUTION! Never use abrasive cleaners. Keep toner cartridge out of direct sunlight.
