Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable, level surface near power outlet.

  1. Remove all packaging tape and protective materials from inside and outside.
  2. Install ink cartridges: Open front cover, insert cartridges into respective slots until they click.
  3. Load paper: Adjust paper guides in tray, load up to 150 sheets of plain paper.
  4. Connect power cord to printer and wall outlet.
  5. Install printhead: Power on, wait for carriage to move to center, install printhead, close cover.

WARNING! Do not touch ink nozzles or copper contacts. Keep printer away from heat sources.

First-Time Setup

Power on printer; follow LCD prompts.

  1. Install software: Insert CD or download drivers from Brother website, follow on-screen instructions.
  2. Network setup: For wireless, use WPS or manual setup via control panel.
  3. Align printhead: Print alignment page from maintenance menu.

Printing & Scanning

  2. Printhead cleaning: Menu > Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
  3. Nozzle check: Print test pattern to identify clogged nozzles.
  4. Exterior cleaning: Unplug, use damp cloth, avoid liquids on controls.
