Unpacking and Setup

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on a stable, level surface near a power outlet.

  1. Remove all packaging materials and tapes from inside and outside the printer.
  2. Install the toner cartridge: Open front cover, remove cartridge from packaging, shake gently, insert until it clicks.
  3. Load paper: Adjust paper guides in tray, load up to 250 sheets of plain paper.
  4. Connect power cord and turn on the printer using the power switch.
  5. Install drivers: Use the included CD or download from Brother website, follow on-screen instructions.

WARNING! Do not touch the green drum surface of the toner cartridge. Avoid placing printer in direct sunlight or humid environments.

Control Panel Overview

CAUTION! Use only Brother TN-450 toner cartridges. Do not expose cartridge to light for extended periods.

Printing Documents

Ensure printer is on and connected (USB or network).

  1. From computer: Open document, select File > Print, choose "Brother MFC-7460DN" as printer.
  2. Adjust settings: Properties for duplex, toner save, resolution, paper size.
  3. Click Print. Job appears in queue, printer processes automatically.
  4. For direct printing (e.g., from USB memory): Insert USB into front port, use LCD to select file and print.

Tip: Use Toner Save mode in printer properties for draft documents to extend cartridge life.

Copying Documents

Place document face down on scanner glass or in ADF (if installed).

  1. Press MONO button for black & white copies, or use COLOR if equipped.

  1. Place document on glass or in ADF.
  2. Press SCAN button, use arrows to select destination (PC, USB, Email).
  3. Set resolution (dpi) and file format (PDF, JPEG, TIFF) via MENU > SCAN SETTINGS.
  4. Press START to scan. For PC scanning, ensure Brother software is installed.
  5. Scan to Email: Requires network setup and SMTP configuration.

Note: Maximum scan area is 8.5" x 14" for flatbed.

Fax Operations

Connect telephone line to LINE port on rear. For PC-FAX, install driver.

  1. Sending: Place document, dial number using keypad or speed dial, press FAX START.

Maintenance and Care

Unplug before cleaning. Exterior: Use soft, dry cloth. Interior: Use lint-free cloth to remove dust and paper debris.

Cleaning Scanner Glass: Turn off, lift cover, clean glass with mild glass cleaner and soft cloth.

Replacing Parts: Follow manual for drum unit (every 4-5 toner cartridges) and pickup rollers if paper feed issues occur.
