Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable, level surface near power outlet and network connection.

  1. Remove all packaging materials and tapes from inside and outside the printer.
  2. Install toner cartridge: Open front cover, remove cartridge from packaging, shake gently, insert until it clicks.
  3. Load paper: Adjust paper guides in tray, load plain paper (letter or A4).
  4. Connect power cord to printer and wall outlet.

WARNING! Toner is sensitive to light; avoid prolonged exposure. Keep printer away from heat sources and humidity.

First-Time Setup

Power on printer; follow on-screen prompts on LCD display.

  1. Initial setup: Select language, date, and time using navigation buttons.
  2. Network setup: For wired connection, connect Ethernet cable. For wireless, use WPS or manual setup via control panel.
  3. Install drivers: Insert included CD or download from Brother website, follow installation wizard.
  4. Test print: Print configuration report to verify setup.

CAUTION! Do not touch the green drum surface of the toner cartridge. Use provided handle for installation.

Tip: Ensure router is on and broadcasting before wireless setup. Keep printer within range.

Printing & Copying

Supports standard and custom print jobs, multiple copy functions.

  1. Printing: Send job from computer, ensure printer is selected and online.
  2. Copying: Place original on flatbed or in ADF, press Copy, adjust settings, press Start.
  3. Duplex: Enable in driver (printing) or select 2-sided copy on control panel.
  4. Multiple copies: Use numeric keypad to enter quantity (1-99).
  5. Enlarge/Reduce: Select percentage (25%-400%) in copy settings.

WARNING! Do not look directly at laser beam inside printer. Keep hands clear of paper path during operation.

Scanning & Faxing

Scanning: Place document, press Scan button, select destination (PC, email, USB), adjust settings (resolution, format).

Faxing: Dial number using keypad, press Start. Receive automatically or manually. Program speed dials and groups.

Fax Settings: Header information, resolution, contrast, redial, error correction mode (ECM).

Maintenance

Replace toner, clean exterior, clear paper jams.

  1. Toner replacement: When toner low message appears, replace with Brother TN-660 cartridge.
  2. Cleaning: Unplug printer. Wipe exterior with dry, soft cloth. Clean glass and ADF rollers with lint-free cloth.
  3. Paper jams: Open rear cover and duplex unit, gently remove jammed paper in direction of paper path.
  4. Drum cleaning: Run drum cleaning utility from maintenance menu if print quality declines.

CAUTION! Unplug printer before cleaning. Do not use alcohol or abrasive cleaners. Dispose of used toner cartridge per local regulations.
