Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on a stable, level surface near a power outlet.

  1. Remove all packaging materials and tapes from inside and outside the unit.
  2. Install the toner cartridge: Open front cover, remove cartridge from packaging, shake gently, and insert until it clicks.
  3. Load paper: Adjust paper guides in tray, load up to 100 sheets of plain paper.
  4. Connect power cord to the unit and plug into a grounded AC outlet.
  5. Connect USB cable to computer (for printing/scanning).
  6. Connect telephone line cord to LINE port for fax functionality.

WARNING! Do not touch the green surface of the drum unit. Avoid placing in humid or dusty environments.

First-Time Setup

Power on the device; follow on-screen prompts on computer for driver installation.

  1. Install software: Insert provided CD or download latest drivers from Brother website.
  2. Follow installation wizard to install printer, scanner, and fax drivers.
  3. Test print: Print a test page from printer properties to verify installation.
  4. Configure fax settings: Set date/time, station ID, and answer mode via control panel.

  2. Connect USB cable to computer and to USB port on rear of device.
  3. Connect telephone line cord from wall jack to LINE port on device.
  4. Connect handset to HANDSET port if using for telephone calls.
  5. Power on device and computer; install drivers if prompted.

Tip: Use a surge protector for power and telephone lines to protect against electrical spikes.

Printing & Copying

Supports standard paper sizes; copy features include reduction/enlargement.

  1. Printing: Select document to print, choose "Brother MFC-4800" as printer, adjust settings as needed, click Print.
  2. Copying: Place original on scanner glass or in ADF, press COPY, use numeric keypad to set number of copies, press START.
  3. Multiple copies: Use numeric keypad to enter quantity (1-99).
  4. Reduce/Enlarge: Press MENU during copy setup, select Zoom, enter percentage.
  5. Paper selection: Ensure correct paper size is loaded in tray.
  6. Cancel job: Press STOP/EXIT during operation.

WARNING! Do not place heavy objects on scanner glass. Keep original documents free of staples or clips when using ADF.

Scanning & Faxing

Scan to computer or memory device; send/receive faxes via telephone line.

Scanning: Place document, press SCAN, select destination (PC, USB), adjust settings via software. Faxing: Dial number using keypad, press START to send; for receive, set answer mode to FAX. Use handset for voice calls if connected.

Care & Maintenance

Unplug before cleaning. Use dry, lint-free cloth; clean scanner glass with glass cleaner if needed. Replace toner cartridge when print quality fades or low toner message appears.

CAUTION! Do not use abrasive cleaners or spray liquids directly on device. Keep ventilation openings clear.
