Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable, level surface near power outlet.

  1. Remove all packaging tape and protective materials from inside and outside the machine.
  2. Install ink cartridges: Open front cover, insert cartridges into their respective slots until they click.
  3. Load paper: Adjust paper guides in the paper tray, load up to 150 sheets of plain paper.
  4. Connect power cord to the machine and plug into AC outlet.
  5. Connect USB cable to computer (if installing drivers).

WARNING! Do not touch ink cartridge nozzles or copper contacts. Keep machine away from heat sources and humidity.

First-Time Setup

Power on the machine; follow initialization and driver installation prompts.

  1. Initialization: The machine will perform a startup cleaning and alignment (takes a few minutes).
  2. Install software: Insert CD or download drivers from Brother website, follow on-screen instructions.
  3. Print nozzle check pattern: Ensure all colors print correctly via maintenance menu.
  4. Set fax settings: Enter date/time, telephone number, and other fax parameters if using fax function.

Connecting Devices

  4. Install drivers when prompted (or from CD/download).
  5. For fax: Connect telephone line to LINE port on back of machine.

Tip: Use a surge protector for power and telephone line connections.

Printing & Copying

Supports various paper types and sizes.

  1. Printing: Select print from computer application, choose Brother MFC-465CN as printer, adjust settings as needed.
  2. Copying: Place original on scanner glass or in ADF, press COPY, adjust settings (copies, density, size), press START.
  3. Multiple copies: Use numeric keypad to enter number before pressing START.
  4. Enlarge/Reduce: Use percentage settings or preset sizes (A4→Letter, etc.).

Scanning & Faxing

Scanning:

  1. Place document on glass or in ADF.
  2. Press SCAN button.
  3. Select scan mode (File, OCR, Email, etc.) via LCD.
  4. Adjust settings (resolution, format).
  5. Press START to scan.

Faxing:

  1. Load document face down in ADF or face down on glass.
  2. Press FAX button.
  3. Dial number using keypad or speed dial.
  4. Adjust resolution or contrast if needed.
  5. Press START to send.
  6. Receive faxes automatically; machine will ring and answer after set number of rings.

Fax memory stores received faxes if paper runs out. Use REPORT menu to print activity reports.

Care & Maintenance

Unplug power before cleaning exterior. Use soft, dry cloth; for stubborn stains, dampen cloth with water only.

  1. Clean scanner glass and ADF rollers with soft, lint-free cloth.
  2. Clean exterior with dry cloth; do not use alcohol or solvents.
  3. Replace ink cartridges when low or print quality declines.
  4. Run nozzle check and head cleaning from MAINTENANCE menu if print quality issues occur.
  5. Keep paper path clear of debris; use approved paper only.

CAUTION! Do not use aerosol cleaners. Avoid touching internal parts. Dispose of used cartridges according to local regulations.
