Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable, level surface near power outlet.

  1. Install ink cartridges: Open front cover, remove protective tape from cartridges, insert into correct slots.
  2. Load paper: Adjust paper guides in tray, load up to 100 sheets face down.
  3. Connect power: Plug power cord into unit and wall outlet.
  4. Connect to computer: Use USB cable to connect printer to PC/Mac.

WARNING! Do not touch print head or ink cartridge contacts. Keep unit away from heat sources.

First-Time Setup

Power on printer; install software from CD.

  1. Install drivers: Insert CD, follow on-screen instructions for your operating system.

  4. For answering machine, connect between printer's TEL port and answering machine.

Tip: Use surge protector for telephone line to prevent damage from power surges.

Printing & Copying

Supports various paper types: plain, photo, envelopes, labels.

  1. Printing: Select print from computer application, choose MFC-3220C as printer.
  2. Copying: Place document face down on scanner glass, press Copy, select settings, press Start.
  3. Multiple copies: Use numeric keypad to enter number (1-99).
  4. Enlarge/Reduce: Press Reduce/Enlarge button, select percentage.
  5. Photo copying: Use Photo mode for better quality.
  6. Cancel job: Press Stop/Exit button.

WARNING! Do not touch scanner glass with fingers; use clean cloth. Do not force paper into tray.

Scanning & Faxing

Scanning: Place document, press Scan button, select destination (PC, Memory Card). Faxing: Program speed dials (up to 100 numbers), use redial (automatic every 3 minutes).

  1. Send fax: Load document, dial number, press Start.
  2. Receive fax: Set to Auto mode for automatic reception.
  3. Memory reception: Stores faxes when paper is empty.
  4. Fax reports: Print activity report from menu.

Note: For scanning to PC, ensure software is installed and PC is on.

Care & Maintenance

Unplug before cleaning. Clean exterior with dry cloth; scanner glass with soft, lint-free cloth.

  1. Clean print head: Use Maintenance menu or software utility.
  2. Replace ink cartridges: When ink low message appears.
  3. Clean paper path: Remove any jammed paper carefully.
  4. Update firmware: Check Brother website for updates.
