Installation & Setup

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable, level surface near power outlet and network connection.

  1. Remove all packaging materials and tapes from inside and outside the printer.
  2. Install the toner cartridge: Open front cover, remove packing material, insert cartridge until it clicks.
  3. Load paper: Adjust paper guides in tray, load plain paper (up to 250 sheets).
  4. Connect power cable and Ethernet cable (for network).
  5. Power on the printer and install drivers from included CD or Brother website.

WARNING! Do not touch the green surface of the drum unit. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or high humidity.

Control Panel & Settings

Access menus and functions via the control panel buttons and LCD display.

Control Panel Buttons: Power, Stop/Exit, OK, Up/Down arrows, Menu, Copy, Scan, Toner Save, Report.

Printing Documents

  1. From your application, select File > Print.
  2. Choose "Brother DCP-L5500DN" as the printer.

  4. Click Print. The Data LED will blink while processing.

Tip: For duplex printing, ensure "Print on Both Sides" is selected in printer properties.

Copying Documents

Use the flatbed glass or optional Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).

  1. Place document face down on scanner glass or face up in ADF.
  2. Press the Copy button on the control panel.
  3. Use arrow keys to set number of copies (1-99).
  4. Adjust settings like Reduce/Enlarge or Toner Save if needed.
  5. Press Black Start or Color Start to begin copying.

WARNING! Do not place heavy objects on the scanner glass.

Scanning Documents

Scan to a computer, email, or network folder.

  1. Install Brother software (ControlCenter) on your computer.
  2. Place document on scanner glass or in ADF.
  3. Press the Scan button on the control panel.
  4. Select scan destination (PC, Email, Network) using arrow keys.
  5. Press OK to start scanning.

Alternatively, use the Brother ControlCenter software on your PC to initiate scans and adjust settings (resolution, file format).

Network Setup

Connect the printer to your wired network for shared access.

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable from the printer to your router or switch.
  2. The printer will automatically obtain an IP address (DHCP).
  3. Print a Network Configuration Report (Menu > Report > Network Config) to verify the IP address.
  4. Install drivers on each computer, selecting "Network Connection" during setup.

Tip: For a static IP, configure via the printer's web interface (enter IP address in a browser).

Maintenance & Supplies
