Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable, level surface near power outlet.

  1. Remove all packing materials and tapes from inside and outside the printer.
  2. Install the toner cartridge: Open front cover, remove cartridge from packaging, shake gently, insert until it clicks.
  3. Load paper: Adjust paper guides in tray, load up to 250 sheets of plain paper.
  4. Connect power cord to printer and wall outlet.
  5. Connect USB cable to printer and computer (if setting up now).

WARNING! Do not touch the green drum surface of the toner cartridge. Avoid exposure to light for extended periods.

First-Time Setup

Power on printer; follow on-screen prompts on computer.

  1. Install software: Insert setup CD-ROM or download drivers from Brother website.
  2. Follow installation wizard: Select connection type (USB), agree to license.
  3. Configure printer settings: Set as default printer if desired.
  4. Print test page: Verify installation success.

Printing & Copying

  1. Printing from PC: Select 'Brother DCP-L2512D' as printer in application, adjust properties as needed, click Print.
  2. Copying: Place original on scanner glass or in ADF (if equipped). Use control panel to set number of copies, darkness, size (50% to 200%). Press Start (Black).
  3. ID Copy: Copies both sides of an ID card onto one page.
  4. N-Up Copy: Copies multiple pages onto a single sheet.
  5. Duplex Printing/Copying: Enable in driver or copy settings for automatic two-sided output.

WARNING! Do not touch the scanner glass or cover while copying is in progress. Use recommended paper to avoid jams.

Scanning

Scan to computer via USB connection.

  1. Place document face down on scanner glass.
  2. On computer, use Brother software (ControlCenter) or Windows Fax and Scan.
  3. Select scan destination (File, Email, OCR).
  4. Adjust settings (Resolution, Color mode [Black/White], File format).
  5. Click Scan. The scanned image will be saved or attached as configured.

Note: For scanning without a computer, this model requires PC connection for processing scan data.

Maintenance & Care

Unplug before cleaning. Use dry, lint-free cloth.

CAUTION! Do not use alcohol, ammonia, or abrasive cleaners. Do not touch the transfer roller or imaging drum.
