Installation & Setup

Unpack and inspect all contents. Place on a stable, level surface near a power outlet.

  1. Remove all packaging tape and protective materials from inside and outside the printer.
  2. Install the toner cartridge: Open front cover, remove cartridge from packaging, shake gently, insert until it clicks.
  3. Load paper: Adjust paper guides in the input tray, load plain paper (up to 250 sheets).
  4. Connect power: Plug power cord into printer and wall outlet.
  5. Connect to computer: Use USB cable or connect Ethernet cable for network setup.
  6. Install software: Insert setup CD or download drivers from Brother website, follow on-screen instructions.

WARNING! Do not touch the green drum surface of the toner cartridge. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or high humidity.

Controls and Indicators

Front Panel: POWER button, LCD display, Navigation buttons (OK, Stop/Exit, Left/Right arrows), Start button (Copy/Scan), Indicator LEDs (Error, Drum, Toner).

Loading Paper & Toner

Loading Paper:

  1. Pull out the paper input tray fully.
  2. Adjust the paper width guides to fit the paper size.
  3. Fan the paper stack and load print side down, ensuring not to exceed the maximum sheet limit.
  4. Adjust the paper length guide and push the tray back in.

Replacing Toner Cartridge:

  1. Open the front cover.
  2. Pull the old toner cartridge straight out.
  3. Unpack new cartridge, shake gently side-to-side 5-6 times.
  4. Insert new cartridge into the slot until it clicks securely.
  5. Close the front cover. The printer will automatically calibrate.

Tip: Use only Brother Genuine TN-660 standard or TN-660H high-yield toner cartridges.

Printing Documents

From your computer, ensure printer driver is installed and printer is selected.

  1. Open the document and select File > Print.
  2. Select "Brother DCP-L2500D" as the printer.
  3. Adjust settings as needed: Duplex (two-sided), Paper Size, Print Quality, Number of Copies.
  4. Click Print. The Data LED will blink while processing.

Direct Functions via Front Panel: Press Device Settings > Print Reports to print configuration page, network settings, or font list.

WARNING! Do not open covers or remove paper during printing.

Copying Documents

Place document face down on the scanner glass or face up in the ADF (if equipped).

  1. Press the Copy button on the front panel.
  2. Use arrow buttons to adjust settings: Number of Copies (1-99), Darkness (Lighter/Darker), Reduce/Enlarge (50%-200%), Copy Size (Fit to Page).
  3. For special functions: Press Menu for ID Copy (copy both sides of an ID onto one page) or N-Up (2/4 pages per sheet).
  4. Press Start to begin copying.

CAUTION! Do not place heavy objects on the scanner glass.

Scanning Documents

Scan to Computer (using driver):

  1. Place document on scanner glass.
  2. Open Brother scanning software (ControlCenter) on your computer.
  3. Select scan profile (Document, Photo) and destination (File, Email, OCR).
  4. Adjust settings (Resolution, File Format, Color Mode).
  5. Click Scan. The scanned image will be saved to your selected location.

Network Scanning: Configure scan-to-email or scan-to-folder via the network settings menu.

Network Setup

Wired Ethernet Connection:

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable from your router to the printer's LAN port.
  2. Power on the printer. It will automatically obtain an IP address (DHCP).
  3. Print a Network Configuration Report (Menu > Network > Print Report) to verify the IP address.
  4. Install the printer driver on each computer, selecting "Network Connection" during setup.

Manual IP Configuration: Access via the front panel: Menu > Network > TCP/IP > Manual.

Tip: Use the Brother Web BRAdmin tool for advanced network management.

Maintenance & Care

Unplug the printer before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use alcohol or solvents.

Cleaning the Scanner Glass: Use a soft, lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water. Wipe gently.

Cleaning the Corona Wire: If print quality issues occur (streaks), access the corona wire inside the drum unit and slide the green tab left and right several times.

Replacing the Drum Unit: The drum unit (DR-620) has a lifespan of approx. 12,000 pages. Replace when prompted by the Drum LED or print quality degrades.

CAUTION! Do not touch the transfer roller or drum surface. Dispose of used consumables according to local regulations.
