Unpacking and Setup

Remove printer and accessories from box. Place on flat, stable surface near power outlet.

  1. Remove all tape and packing materials from inside and outside printer.
  2. Connect power cord: Plug into AC outlet and printer rear.
  3. Load paper: Adjust paper guides in input tray, load up to 100 sheets plain paper.
  4. Power on: Press POWER button; printer initializes.

WARNING! Do not touch print head or ink cartridge contacts. Keep printer horizontal during setup.

Installing Ink Cartridges

Install cartridges before first use. Ensure printer is on and not printing.

  1. Open ink cartridge cover: Lift cover until it locks.
  2. Remove cartridge from packaging; gently shake side-to-side.
  3. Insert cartridge: Match color labels (Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow). Push until click.
  4. Close cover; printer starts ink charging (approx. 2 minutes).

CAUTION! Do not turn off printer during ink charging. Use only Brother LC-223/227 cartridges.

Control Panel and Settings

Control Panel: POWER, STOP, Wireless button, Copy button, Scan button, Navigation arrows, OK, Back.

Menu Settings: Access via Menu button: Network, Maintenance, Report, Defaults.

Network: View wireless settings, run setup wizard. Maintenance: Clean print head, align cartridge, nozzle check. Report: Print network configuration, print quality report. Defaults: Reset network, restore factory defaults.

Wireless Setup

Connect printer to your Wi-Fi network for wireless printing.

  1. Press Wireless button on control panel; Wireless light blinks.
  2. On computer, install Full Driver & Software from Brother website.
  3. Run Wireless Setup Wizard during installation or via Control Panel.
  4. Select network name (SSID), enter password when prompted.
  5. Confirm connection: Wireless light stays lit.

Tip: For Wi-Fi Direct, press and hold Wireless button 2 seconds, connect device to "DIRECT-xx-BROTHER" network.

Printing from Computer

Ensure driver installed and printer connected (USB or wireless).

  1. Open document; select Print.
  2. Choose "Brother DCP-J1200W" as printer.
  3. Set preferences: Paper size, quality, duplex, color mode.
  4. Click Print; job sends to printer.
  5. Monitor status via printer display or computer queue.

Mobile Printing: Install Brother iPrint&Scan app, select document/photo, choose printer, print.

Copying and Scanning

Copying: Place original on glass or ADF (if equipped).

  1. Press Copy button on control panel.
  2. Use arrows to set copies (1-99), reduce/enlarge, darkness.
  3. Press Color or Black button to start.

Scanning: Install scanning software (Brother iPrint&Scan).

  1. Place original; press Scan button or use computer software.
  2. Select destination (computer, email, cloud).
  3. Set format (PDF, JPEG), resolution, color mode.
  4. Start scan; file saves to selected location.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Unplug power before cleaning exterior. Use soft, dry cloth; avoid liquids.

Print Head Cleaning: If print quality declines, run nozzle check from Maintenance menu. If needed, perform head cleaning (uses ink).

CAUTION! Do not touch print head nozzles. Replace ink cartridges when low or empty.
