Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable, level surface near power outlet.

  1. Remove all packaging tapes and protective materials from printer.
  2. Install ink cartridges: Open cartridge cover, insert cartridges in correct slots (black, cyan, magenta, yellow).
  3. Load paper: Adjust paper guides in input tray, load up to 100 sheets.
  4. Connect power: Plug AC adapter into printer and wall outlet.
  5. Turn on printer using power button.

WARNING! Do not touch print head or ink cartridge contacts. Keep printer horizontal during installation.

First-Time Setup

Power on printer; follow on-screen prompts on LCD or computer.

  1. Install print head: Printer will automatically move carriage; follow LCD instructions.
  2. Align print head: Printer will print alignment page; scan it using scanner glass.
  3. Connect to computer: Use USB cable or wireless setup wizard.

  3. For manual setup: Use control panel to select network and enter password.
  4. For USB: Connect USB cable to computer and printer, install drivers.

Tip: Place printer within range of wireless router. Avoid obstacles for best signal.

Printing & Scanning

Supports documents, photos, envelopes, labels.

  1. Printing: Select file, choose Brother DCP-J105 as printer, adjust settings, click Print.
  2. Copying: Place document on scanner glass or in ADF, press Copy button, adjust settings, press Start.
  3. Scanning: Place document on scanner glass, press Scan button or use software, select destination.
  4. Mobile Printing: Install Brother iPrint&Scan app, connect to same network, select photos/documents.
  5. Duplex Printing: Enable in print dialog for automatic double-sided printing.

WARNING! Do not open covers during printing. Use recommended paper types.

Maintenance

Replace ink cartridges when low ink warning appears. Clean print head if print quality declines. Run nozzle check pattern periodically.

  1. Ink replacement: Open cartridge cover, press old cartridge down to release, insert new cartridge.
  2. Print head cleaning: Use printer software or control panel maintenance menu.
  3. Exterior cleaning: Unplug, use soft dry cloth; do not use alcohol or solvents.
  4. Scanner glass cleaning: Use lint-free cloth with glass cleaner; avoid spraying directly.

CAUTION! Turn off and unplug before cleaning. Do not refill cartridges.
