Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable, level surface near power outlet.

  1. Remove all packaging materials and tapes from inside and outside the printer.
  2. Install the toner cartridge: Open front cover, remove protective tape from cartridge, insert until it clicks.
  3. Load paper: Pull out paper tray, adjust guides, load up to 250 sheets of A4 paper.
  4. Connect power cable to printer and wall outlet.
  5. Connect network cable (Ethernet) or USB cable to computer if needed.

WARNING! Do not touch the green drum surface of the toner cartridge. Avoid placing printer in humid or dusty locations.

First-Time Setup

Power on printer; follow on-screen prompts on control panel.

  1. Initial startup: Printer will perform self-test and calibrate.
  2. Set language: Use Menu button on control panel to select language.
  3. Configure network: For Ethernet, connect cable and printer will obtain IP automatically (or set manually via menu).
  4. Install drivers: Insert installation CD or download latest drivers from Brother website.

Printing & Copying

  1. Printing: Send print job from computer; ensure printer is selected.
  2. Copying: Place original on scanner glass or in ADF (if equipped), press Copy, set options, press Start.
  3. Duplex: Select 2-sided copy/print in settings.
  4. Multiple copies: Use numeric keypad on control panel (or software) to set quantity.
  5. Reduce/Enlarge: Select percentage (50% to 200%) or preset sizes.
  6. ID Copy: Copies both sides of ID card onto single page.
  7. Toner Save: Enable in menu or print driver to reduce toner usage.

WARNING! Do not touch scanner glass with fingers; use clean cloth. Avoid paper clips or staples in paper path.

Scanning Features

Scan to computer, email, or network folder.

  1. Place document face down on scanner glass.
  2. Press Scan button on control panel.
  3. Select destination (Scan to PC, Scan to Email, Scan to Folder).
  4. Adjust settings (resolution, format) via menu or software.
  5. Press Start to begin scanning.

Supported formats: PDF, JPEG, TIFF. Resolution: 150 to 1200 dpi.

Maintenance & Supplies

Replace toner cartridge when low or empty.

  1. Open front cover.
  2. Remove old toner cartridge by pulling toward you.
  3. Unpack new cartridge, shake gently, remove protective tape.
  4. Insert new cartridge until it clicks securely.
  5. Close front cover; printer will calibrate.

Cleaning: Unplug before cleaning. Wipe exterior with dry cloth. Clean scanner glass with soft, lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water.

CAUTION! Use only Brother Genuine toner cartridges. Do not refill or remanufacture.
