Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on a stable, level surface near a power outlet.

  1. Remove all packaging tape and protective materials from inside and outside the unit.
  2. Install the toner cartridge: Open front cover, remove cartridge from packaging, shake gently, insert until it clicks.
  3. Load paper: Adjust paper guides in the tray, load paper (plain, letter/A4), and ensure guides are snug.
  4. Connect power cord to the printer and then to a grounded electrical outlet.
  5. Connect to computer: Use the USB cable to connect the printer to your computer (for USB model).

WARNING! Do not touch the green drum surface of the toner cartridge. Avoid placing the printer in direct sunlight or high humidity.

First-Time Setup

Power on the printer; follow on-screen prompts on your computer if installing drivers.

  1. Install software: Insert the supplied CD or download drivers from the Brother website. Follow the installation wizard.
  2. Network setup (for network model): Use the control panel or software to configure the IP address.
  3. Print a test page: From the driver properties or control panel, select to print a configuration page to verify operation.
  4. Set default preferences: Configure paper size, print quality, and other defaults in the printer driver.

CAUTION! Ensure the printer is on a flat surface to prevent paper jams. Keep the area around the printer clear for ventilation.

Access functions via the Control Panel LCD and buttons.

Control Panel: POWER, Start/Stop, Navigation arrows, OK, Back, Menu, Copy, Scan, Fax (PC-FAX mode).

Menu Settings: Report (Print Configuration, Network Config), Machine Info, Reset, Defaults, Network (for network models).

Connecting Devices

USB: Connect directly to a computer. Network: Connect via Ethernet cable to a router/switch.

  1. Turn off the printer before connecting cables.
  2. For USB: Connect the USB cable to the printer and computer. Turn on the printer.
  3. For Network: Connect an Ethernet cable from the printer to your network. Use the control panel to obtain an IP address automatically or set manually.
  4. Install the driver, selecting the connection type during setup.

Tip: For network installation, print a Network Configuration Report from the menu to verify the IP address.

Printing & Copying

Supports printing from applications, direct copying, and PC-FAX.

  1. Printing: Select 'Print' from your application, choose Brother DCP-8070D as the printer, adjust settings as needed, and click Print.
  2. Copying: Place document face-down on the scanner glass or face-up in the ADF (if equipped). Use the control panel to set copy options (number, darkness, size). Press Start.
  3. Duplex Printing/Copying: Enable in the driver (printing) or select from the copy menu (for 2-sided to 2-sided copies).
  4. PC-FAX: Requires fax software installed on your computer. Use the software to send and receive faxes through the printer's modem.

WARNING! Do not use damaged paper. Always fan paper before loading to prevent multiple sheets feeding.

Scanning

Scan to computer, email, network folder, or OCR application.

  1. Place document on scanner glass or in ADF.
  2. Initiate scan: Press the Scan button on the control panel, or use the Brother software (ControlCenter) on your computer.
  3. Select destination: Scan to Image, File, OCR, Email, or Network.
  4. Configure settings: Resolution, color mode, file format (PDF, JPEG, etc.), and file name.
  5. Start the scan.

Note: For best OCR results, use 300 dpi or higher resolution.

Maintenance & Care

Unplug the printer before cleaning. Use a dry, soft cloth. Do not use alcohol or solvents.

CAUTION! Do not touch the transfer roller or imaging drum. Keep the printer free of dust and paper clips.
