Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable, level surface near power outlet.

  1. Remove all packaging materials and tape from printer.
  2. Install toner cartridge: Open front cover, remove cartridge from packaging, shake gently, insert into slot until it clicks.
  3. Load paper: Pull out paper tray, adjust guides, load up to 250 sheets of plain paper.
  4. Connect power cable to printer and wall outlet.
  5. Connect USB cable to computer (if installing drivers).

WARNING! Toner powder may be harmful if inhaled; avoid shaking cartridge vigorously. Keep printer away from heat and moisture.

First-Time Setup

Power on printer; follow on-screen prompts on computer.

  1. Install drivers: Insert installation CD or download from Brother website, follow setup wizard.
  2. Configure printer settings: Use control panel to set language, date/time, network settings (if applicable).

Printing and Copying

Supports standard paper sizes, envelopes, labels.

  1. Printing from computer: Select file > Print > choose Brother DCP-8020 > adjust settings > Print.
  2. Making copies: Place original in ADF or on flatbed, press Copy button, set number of copies and zoom, press Start.
  3. Multiple copies: Use numeric keypad on control panel (if available) or navigation to set copy count.
  4. ID Card Copy: Place card on flatbed, select ID Card Copy from menu to scan both sides on single page.

Scanning Documents

Scan to computer, email, or memory device (if supported).

  1. Place document in ADF or on flatbed glass.
  2. Press Scan button on control panel.
  3. Select scan settings: Resolution, color mode, file format, destination.
  4. Press Start to begin scanning; file saved to specified location.
  5. For scanning to email: Configure email settings via software first.

Note: Higher resolution increases file size; use 300 dpi for documents, 600 dpi for photos.

Maintenance & Care

Unplug before cleaning. Use dry, lint-free cloth; no liquids or abrasive cleaners.

  1. Clean exterior: Wipe with damp cloth (not wet), dry immediately.
  2. Clean scanner glass: Use glass cleaner and soft cloth; avoid scratching.
  3. Replace toner: When toner low message appears, replace with TN-360 cartridge.
  4. Clear paper jams: Open covers, gently remove jammed paper in direction of paper path.
  5. Reset maintenance counter: Via menu if required after maintenance.

CAUTION! Do not use alcohol or solvents on plastic parts. Keep toner cartridges in sealed bag until use.
