Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on a stable, level surface near a power outlet.

  1. Remove all packaging tape and protective materials from inside and outside the unit.
  2. Install the toner cartridge: Open the front cover, remove the cartridge from its packaging, shake gently, and insert until it clicks into place.
  3. Load paper: Adjust the paper guides in the input tray, load paper (face down), and adjust guides to fit.
  4. Connect power cable to the printer and a wall outlet.
  5. Connect USB cable to the printer and your computer (if setting up immediately).

WARNING! Do not touch the green drum surface of the toner cartridge. Avoid placing the printer in direct sunlight or high humidity.

First-Time Setup

Power on the printer; the LCD will display initial setup prompts.

  1. Install software: Insert the provided CD or download drivers from Brother's website. Follow on-screen instructions.
  2. Configure printer settings: Use the control panel to set language, date/time, and default print settings.
  3. Print a test page: From the printer driver or control panel, print a test page to verify installation.
  4. Align the cartridge: If print quality is poor, run the cartridge alignment utility from the maintenance menu.

CAUTION! Ensure the printer is on a stable surface and ventilation openings are not blocked.

Connecting to Computer

USB connection: Use the provided USB cable.

  1. Ensure the printer is off and computer is on.
  2. Connect the USB cable to the printer and an available USB port on the computer.
  3. Power on the printer. The computer should detect new hardware.
  4. Install the printer driver software if prompted, or run the installation CD.
  5. Set as default printer in your computer's printer settings if desired.

Tip: For best performance, connect directly to a computer USB port, not through a hub.

Printing Documents

Supports printing from various applications.

  1. Ensure printer is on and paper is loaded.
  2. Open the document and select File > Print.
  3. Select "Brother DCP-130C" as the printer.
  4. Adjust print settings as needed (pages, copies, quality).
  5. Click Print. The printer will process and output the document.
  6. For special media (envelopes, labels), adjust paper guides and select correct media type in driver.
  7. Use toner save mode from driver or control panel to extend toner life for drafts.

WARNING! Do not reach inside the printer while it is printing. Allow printed pages to cool before handling.

Copying & Scanning

Copying: Place original face down on scanner glass. Use control panel to set number of copies, exposure, zoom. Press Start. For multiple copies, use the numeric keypad (if available) or arrows.

Scanning: Place original on glass. Press Scan button. Use Menu to set scan resolution and destination (file, email, OCR). Press Start. Scanned images can be saved to computer or sent via email using Brother software.

Features: ID Card Copy (scans both sides onto one page), Poster Copy (enlarges across multiple pages), N-up (2/4 pages per sheet).

Maintenance & Cleaning

Unplug the printer before cleaning. Use a dry, soft cloth to wipe the exterior. Clean the scanner glass with a lint-free cloth and glass cleaner if needed.

Replacing Toner: When toner is low, open front cover, remove old cartridge, shake new cartridge gently, insert until it clicks, close cover. Run a cleaning cycle from maintenance menu.

CAUTION! Do not use abrasive cleaners or compressed air inside the printer. Do not touch the transfer roller or imaging drum.
