Installation & Setup

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on a stable, level surface near a power outlet and within range of your wireless router.

  1. Install toner cartridge: Open front cover, remove packing material, insert cartridge until it clicks.
  2. Load paper: Adjust paper guides in input tray, load up to 150 sheets of plain paper.
  3. Connect power: Plug power cord into printer and wall outlet.
  4. Power on: Press the Power button.

WARNING! Do not touch the green drum surface of the toner cartridge. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or high humidity.

First-Time Configuration

Power on the printer; follow on-screen prompts on the LCD or use the Brother installer software on your computer.

  1. Set language: Use the Menu button on the control panel to select your language.
  2. Wireless setup: Use the WLAN button to search for your network, enter password using the keypad.
  3. Install drivers: Insert the supplied CD or download latest drivers from Brother website.
  4. Test print: Print a configuration report to verify installation.

CAUTION! Ensure proper ventilation; keep at least 4 inches of clearance on all sides.

Connecting to Network

Wireless: Built-in Wi-Fi. Wired: USB connection to a single computer.

  1. Ensure printer is powered on and in ready state.
  2. Press the WLAN button on the control panel.
  3. Select your network from the list on the LCD.
  4. Enter your network password using the arrow keys and OK button.
  5. Wait for the Wi-Fi indicator to light steadily.

Tip: For easier setup, use the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button on your router if available.

Printing & Copying

Supports printing from computers, smartphones, and tablets.

  1. Print a document: Select 'Print' from your application, choose Brother DCP-1200W as printer.
  2. Make copies: Place original on scanner glass or in ADF (if equipped), press Copy button, set number of copies and options on LCD.
  3. Duplex printing: Enable in printer properties or via control panel for automatic two-sided prints.
  4. Cancel job: Press the Stop/Exit button.
  5. Check supplies: Press the Go (Status) button to view toner level on LCD.

WARNING! Do not touch the fuser unit inside the printer; it is hot during and after operation.

Scanning Documents

Scan to computer, email, or network folder.

  1. Place document face down on scanner glass.
  2. Press the Scan button on the control panel or use Brother iPrint&Scan software.
  3. Select destination (Computer, Email, File).
  4. Choose scan settings (Color/Gray/Black, Resolution, File Format).
  5. Press Start to begin scanning.

Note: For scanning to email, you must first configure your email settings via the web interface.

Maintenance & Care

Unplug before cleaning. Use a dry, soft cloth to clean exterior. Clean scanner glass with a lint-free cloth and glass cleaner if needed.

Routine Maintenance: Replace toner cartridge when low. Clean paper path if paper jams occur. Update firmware periodically from Brother website.

CAUTION! Do not use abrasive cleaners or compressed air on the interior. Never lubricate any parts.
